Canadian Peace Alliance convention starts today

Posted on Updated on

The 2014 convention of the Canadian Peace Alliance (CPA) starts today, Friday, January 17, with a panel discussion called ‘What would you do with $490 billion? Alternatives to war, militarism and austerity’. Speakers include Josie Forcadilla (military family member), Crystal Sinclair (Idle No more), Donald Lafleur (Canadian Union of Postal Workers) and Kim Kerridge (Canadian Peace Alliance). The panel discussion is part of the CPA’s centrepiece campaign – ‘Peace & prosperity, not war & austerity’ – which calls for the tens of billions of dollars allocated to the Canada First Defence Strategy to be redirected to programs that the public supports and needs: healthcare, child care, education, climate justice initiatives, public transit, good jobs and pensions.

The panel takes place at the Ryerson Student Centre55 Gould Street, in downtown Toronto. The panel begins at 7pm.

Registration for the convention opens at 5pm this afternoon and lasts all weekend. Register now! Join on Facebook.
